Update on plans for Ewell Village

Following all the feedback you’ve provided previously about the changes you’d like to see in Ewell Village, we’ve now got three options for the High Street for you to consider, plus proposed improvements at a number of other junctions.

The plans are available online for you to view and provide your feedback on the Ewell Village consultation website. They will also be on display in Ewell Village library for the first two weeks in June.

In addition, we are holding three in-person events where you can come along and talk to members of the project team and ask questions. These are:

• Saturday 3rd June at Ewell Village Artisan Market, 10am to 3pm

• Wednesday 7th June, Bourne Hall, 10am to 1pm

• Friday 9th June, Bourne Hall, 4pm to 8pm

This consultation will be live until the end of June.

Project update

Thank you to everyone who completed our survey in the autumn. We are now taking the time to review the feedback and incorporate this into new proposals for improvements to the village. We are working on a few different possible options that address the feedback from residents as well as that from research carried out earlier last year.

Once we have designs prepared, we will share them with you and ask for your feedback, before proceeding. We expect to be able to share proposals in May.

Please note that, whilst both Surrey County Council and Epsom & Ewell Borough Council are supportive of the project principals, definitive funding amounts have yet to be allocated. Once initial plans are agreed and supported by residents, we will seek the required level of funding for the works.

This is what you told us…

Last summer, we conducted in-depth research with residents about their feedback on the good bits and bad bits of Ewell Village, and what they would like to see improved. This research was in-depth, qualitative research with a smaller number of people. To validate the results of this, in autumn we shared the main themes and asked if you agreed. Here is some of the feedback we received:

  • 77% of you are concerned or very concerned about road safety in Ewell Village, including congestion, through traffic and narrow pavements.
  • In addition, 69% of you agreed that the pedestrian environment is challenging or very challenging. By this we mean uneven or unsafe pavements, inaccessible routes and lack of or inadequate crossing points.
  • 68% of you agreed that Ewell Village looks a bit scruffy and unloved and could do with sprucing up.
  • 80% of you would like to see more diverse and interesting businesses on the high street and believe that this would encourage you to visit more.
  • 68% of you think more could be done to promote Ewell’s past and historical significance.
  • We look forward to sharing the proposals with you in Spring and hearing your feedback on the designs.
